London Fire Destroys Indie Warehouse

LONDON’S BURNING: U.K. indies Beggars Banquet, Domino and PIAS, as well as U.S. labels Sub Pop and Victory, are the latest victims of the London riots after a distribution warehouse which held much of their stock was burned to the ground this morning. Sony DADC in Enfield was set on fire, leaving many labels concerned about lost stock, including such acts as Adele and Two Door Cinema Club. Beggars Group chairman Martin Mills confirmed his company had product at the major warehouse, but said he and other larger labels would be less affected than smaller labels because they carried stock in other locations, calling the set-back for indies “horrible,” with labels now facing manufacturing issues. Indie trade org AIM has asked fans to help out small labels by buying a digital download of an album in addition to going to their local record store while stocks last. (8/9a)
