CHIP OFF THE OLD BLOCK: Frances Bean Cobain is suddenly the talk of the fashion world, the result of a striking series of sultry black-and-white photos shot and posted last week by Hedi Slimane. “Is Frances Bean Cobain Fashion’s Newest ‘IT’ Girl?” asked the blog Full Frontal Fashion. “Romantic, introspective, and intense: more Frances, please,” wrote Leila Brillson for MTV. “This isn’t just some cultish foundling,” MTV Style Sr. Editor Mary H. K. Choi noted in the N.Y. Times. “She’s absolutely owning the moment, and I think that’s the first time we’ve seen her do that. And, hi, she’s covered in tattoos. And, hello, there’s décolletage.” A spokeswoman for Slimane said the photos were undertaken privately at Frances’ request, and that the photographer had no plans yet to publish the series in print. Kurt and Courtney’s daughter turns 19 on Thursday, and her dad’s Nevermind turns 20 on Sept. 24. (8/16a)
