Page Six wrong again: RCA/Jive

MORE JIVE FROM PAGE SIX: The N.Y. Post’s fact-challenged gossip section has posted yet another error-filled item about the music biz. “Nearly 50 employees were laid off at Jive Records yesterday when the iconic label was folded into RCA,” the item reads in part. “An insider said that none of the artists have been axed—yet—but most of the promotions department has been demolished.” Sheesh—don't they ever get it right? Here are the facts: Far fewer than 50 people were laid off, and the promotion department is remains intact under Joe Riccitelli, who's been tapped to head up the promo efforts of the Peter Edge-led new RCA. Further, none of his key people have been dumped. Riccitelli’s longstanding relationships with Justin Timberlake, Britney Spears, Pink, Usher and the other former Jive artists were a key element in his being chosen to lead the promotion department of the combined companies. Superstar acts love the radio promo people who have helped make careers—just ask 'em. (8/24a)
