Americana Awards
WHOLE LOTTA LOVE AT RYMAN: Robert Plant's Band of Joy picked up Album of the Year, and Buddy Miller earned an Artist of the Year nod, during the Americana Music Association's 10th Annual Honors and Awards last night at Nashville's Ryman Auditorium. It was a big night for Miller, who also got Instrumentalist of the Year—bringing his total of Americana trophies to 12—while also leading the all-star house band. Song of the Year went to Justin Townes Earle for "Harlem River Blues," while The Avett Brothers walked away with their third Duo/Group of the Year award over The Civil Wars, who performed, and Mumford and Sons got New/Emerging Artist of the Year. Lucinda Williams received the Lifetime Achievement Award for Songwriting, Gregg Allman for Performance and Jerry Douglas for Instrumentalist. Producer Rick Hall, who helped create the Muscle Shoals sound at FAME Studios, was honored with the Jack Emerson Lifetime Achievement Award for Executive. Finally, U.K. radio host and journalist Bob Harris was on hand to receive the Trailblazer Award. (10/14a)
