No Fur in WeHo

NO FUR IN WEHO:
Last Monday (11/21), the West Hollywood City Council passed historic legislation declaring the city the first municipality in the world to ban the sale of fur apparel, according to Animal Alliance activist Ellen Lavinthal. City Councilman John D'Amico (above, with Ellen), Ed Buck and LCA's Chris Derose led the year-long campaign to a successful conclusion in the face of fierce opposition by the National Fur Council. The W. Hollywood City Council, known for their humane progressive social initiatives, faced serious opposition from retailers such as Maxfields, which promised to stop selling fur, but then did a 180 and lent their support to the Fur Council’s opposition of the ban. Lavinthal was assisted by her daughter Stella Lavinthal, one of the finalists for Junior Activists of the Year. (11/28a)
