IDOL BANGS THEORY: Rumors of American Idol’s demise are somewhat premature, but the show is still showing signs of ratings decay in its 11th season. Fox’s music talent competition was challenged last night by CBS’ The Big Bang Theory, with the sitcom’s 100th episode drawing a 5.2/14 share in 18-49, though Idol’s adjusted 5.6 in the demo from 8-8:30 p.m. beat it by about 2 million viewers. The Idol audience grew to a 6.1 from 8:30-9 p.m. to top the night with a 5.7/15 in 18-49, for a total of 17.7 million viewers. But, just like on Wednesday, the show was down 27% from last year’s Thursday premiere (20% from the 8-9 p.m. hour). With Idol as a lead-in, new Fox drama The Finder (2.2/5) was up 29% from its premiere last week, but it still held onto a paltry third of the show's 8:30-9 p.m. demo rating. Fox (3.9/10, 12.3 million) won the night in 18-49 but not in total viewers, with CBS (3.5/9, 14.0 million) besting that total. (1/20p)
