WILCO EAT THEIR SPINACH: In the most recent Popeye comic book, the N.Y. Times points out, artists Frank Caruso and Ned Sonntag paid tribute to Wilco with a panel that featured the Wilco Brand Spinach Company and showed the band playing on a wharf as boxes of the product were loaded aboard a ship, also called the Wilco. And to round things out, there is also this interactive website. All of this comic book love has inspired Jeff Tweedy and company’s first video first video in more than 10 years, for “Dawned on Me” from the Grammy-nominated The Whole Love, made with the cooperation of King Features. Turns out that Elzie Segar, the originator of Popeye, is from southern Illinois, just like Tweedy. (1/27a)
