Ratner to Make MTV Movie

FROM SMALL SCREEN TO BIG: The story of MTV is going to the big screen. Rush Hour director Brett Ratner and Sony are closing in on a deal to produce a feature chronicling the rise of the video music channel based on Craig Marks and Rob Tannenbaum’s I Want My MTV: The Uncensored Story of the Music Video Revolution. Ratner's Rat Entertainment is in talks with the studio to make the movie with Mosaic's Jimmy Miller. Ratner might direct, with John Cheng as exec produce, while Welcome to People scribe Jody Lambert is attached as screenwriter. CAA and Janklow Nesbit brokered the deal on behalf of the authors; the agency also reps Ratner. Casting suggestions include Aaron Eckhart as Tom Freston, Zachary Quinto as Bob Pittman, Matthew McConaughey as Les Garland, Jesse Eisenberg as John Sykes, and Anne Hathaway as Judy McGrath. (3/16p)
