SONY, COLUMBIA FLYING HIGH: Success seems to follow Doug Morris around. On the job less than a year (his anniversary will be this July), Morris’ Sony Music Entertainment has surpassed his old home UMG in total album marketshare, and this week sports the Top 5 sellers (John Mayer, Adele, Carrie Underwood, MercyMe and One Direction) and six of the Top 10 (including Epic’s Sara Bareilles). Meanwhile, Columbia’s Team Stringer/Barnett remains red-hot, leading label current marketshare by a large margin over Universal Republic, sporting four of the Top 5. An impressive run, indeed.
