SPIN DOCTORING: As has been rumored for awhile, BuzzMedia, which publishes popular music/lifestyle blog sites Idolator, Stereogum, AbsolutePunk and KimKardashian.com, among others, plans to announce today that it is acquiring venerable Spin magazine, with the goal of turning it into an online-only publication. The 27-year-old zine, which was started by Bob Guccione Jr. in 1985 as an alternative to Rolling Stone, has been focusing on its digital side over the past several months, beefing up its online staff. BuzzMedia recently hired Village Voice Director of New Media Bill Jensen as VP/GM for music and bought dance music site XLR8R in May. The magazine has been on a bimonthly publishing schedule, with an upcoming Sept/Oct. issue, featuring rapper Azalea Banks on the cover, which could well be its last print edition, pending an evaluation.
