Frank Ocean Raves Continue to Flood In

OCEAN WAVES: The Frank Ocean phenomenon continues apace, as his new Def Jam/IDJ album, Channel Orange, continues to sell, while the 24-year-old draws critical raves for his performance of “Bad Religion” on this week’s Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. Here’s just a small sampling of the kudos: SPIN: “A lot of people are going to love this man very soon.” L.A. Times: “There was a stripped-down, emotionally raw quality [that] was riveting.” A Jon Caramanica N.Y. Times Arts & Leisure cover story enthuses that the performer “is creating his own gravity.” Time magazine says, “Like a gifted novelist, Ocean takes for granted that our capacity for empathy is vaster than we know. And with Channel Orange, he goes a long way toward proving it.” (7/13p)
