Grammy Pundits Weigh In

PUNDITS ARE US: So whatta we know? Apparently plenty. Resident HITS Handicapped Guy Roy Trakin topped both Lenny Beer and our guest expert Paul Grein in the four major categories, but it was close and comes with some disclaimers. Trakin led the way with 12 right picks, hitting three in album (Ocean, Mumfords, Black Keys), four in Best New Artist (Ocean, Shakes, Lumineers, Hunter Hayes), three in Record (Gotye, Ocean, fun.) and two in Song (Carly Rae, Clarkson). That was one better than reigning guru Beer, who correctly tapped four of the Album finishers (Ocean, Mumfords, Keys, fun.), three of the Best New Artists (Ocean, Shakes, Lumineers), two in Record (Gotye, Ocean) and two in Song (Carly Rae, Clarkson), giving him 11. Grein had three of the albums (Ocean, Mumfords, Keys), though he did mention as runners-up fun., missing just Jack White. He correctly tapped Frank Ocean and fun. for Best New Artist, while mentioning Lumineers, Shakes and Hunter Hayes as “other contenders,” nailing four in Record of the Year (he deemed Taylor Swift a “long shot”) and Jepsen and Clarkson for Song of the Year. also for a total of 11.
