NARM to Honor Ted Cohen, Buddy Guy

NARM IN THE AIR: If it’s spring—and it will be in two days—a young man’s (and woman’s) fancy turns toward NARM, which is set to get underway May 6-9 at L.A.’s Hyatt Regency Century Plaza Hotel. Two awards have already been announced, with digital music veteran Ted Cohen to receive the org’s Presidential Award for Sustained Industry Achievement , while legendary Rock and Hall of Fame blues guitarist Buddy Guy will get the prestigious Chairman’s Award for Sustained Creative Achievement. Cohen, credited with helping to craft the original licensing agreements for iTunes and Rhapsody while convincing record labels, music publishers and the creative community to embrace the possibilities of new technology, will receive his honor May 8 at the Music Biz 2013 Breakfast & Opening Session. Previous winners include such luminaries as Clive Davis, Don Cornelius, Henry Droz, Dick Clark, Jim Urie, John Marmaduke, Ahmet & Nesuhi Ertegen and Russ Solomon, among others. Guy will receive his honor at the Awards Dinner Party on May 9. Past winners include Lionel Richie, Brian Wilson, Cyndi Lauper, Daryl Hall & John Oates, BB King, Chicago, Kool & the Gang, Carlos Santana, Liza Minnelli, Kenny Rogers, Dionne Warwick, Fleetwood Mac, Billy Joel, Stevie Wonder, Nat King Cole, Barbra Streisand, Judy Garland and Frank Sinatra, among others.
