TODAY’S LUCKY NUMBER—2101: I.B. Bad told you last week that Jennifer Lopez had signed with RedOne’s label at Steve Barnett’s Capitol Music Group. This morning, UMG corporate publicity made the partnership between the producer and Capitol official. According to the announcement, the deal with RedOne’s 2101 Records is “exclusive multi-year [and] worldwide,” and the label will be based in the Capitol tower. Barnett hailed writer/producer/exec (real name: Nadir Khayat) as “a true visionary and one of the most well-rounded and talented figures in music. He can do it all, but we’re especially relying on his acumen as an executive and his commitment to discovering and guiding new talent through 2101 Records.” Stated Lucian Grainge: "As Universal Music Group builds out an unrivaled team of the industry's finest creative executives, I am thrilled that we are extending our relationship with RedOne, and that he will be working with the incredible team Steve Barnett has built at Capitol." RedOne called Capitol “a great partner for us, and we can’t wait to bring our artists’ to music fans around the world under 2101 Records/Capitol. I look forward to working with Steve, Lucian, and my amazing team to drive 2101 to preeminence in the days, weeks, months and years to come.” Among the acts signed to the label are Midnight Red, Porcelain Black and 7Lions. The label plans to announce “some highly anticipated new signings and releases in the very near future,” presumably including the above-referenced J.Lo. (5/1a)
