WEEKLY NEW-RELEASE MARKETSHARE: It’s Wednesday morning—time to compare our handy-dandy marketshare graphic with the final album chart. Don’t worry, boys and girls, this is not rocket science. Lady Antebellum moved 169k units in week one, and whaddaya know, UMG Nashville sets the pace for the Top 10 labels. The soundtrack to The Great Gatsby finishes an unexpectedly first week with 135k, making it a strong #2, and it’s no coincidence that IGA came in second as well. (But there’s no truth to the rumor that John Janick is looking at real estate in West Egg.) Republic and RCA stay in the Top 5, a status to which they’ve become accustomed, by virtue of legit hits from eight Top 50 LPs totaling 138k for Monte Lipman’s machine, and the Timberlake/P!nk/Fantasia triumvirate totaling 117k for Peter Edge and Tom Corson, who have turned Nipper into a pit bull this year. From there, things get a bit less obvious, but the pattern continues, as it does every week. Now, if you wouldn’t mind checking our addition, that would be extremely helpful. (5/15a)
