New-release marketshare

NEW-RELEASE MARKETSHARE: After Magna Carta Holy Grail powered Roc Nation to the pinnacle of this Top 10 chart a week ago, we wondered where the Roc would land following week two of Jay [space] Z’s offensive, and which majors would wind up above it. We now have the answers. While the combined totals of Republic’s two top-sellers—the debuting Ace Hood (#4, 32.3k) and the relentless Florida Georgia Line (#5, 31k)—didn’t come close to matching Hova’s 127.8k, this is a volume business and Monte Lipman’s label had enough albums selling enough units to take back the top perch. Columbia took #2 with the same formula, led by J.Cole (#6, 26.4k), one of Roc Nation’s parting gifts to Rob Stringer’s surging label, and Daft Punk (#13, 18.9k). The one new entry on the leaderboard was transitioning Epic, thanks primarily to a healthy debut from Sara Bareilles. As for the number of units sold last week by UMPG’s security team, that’s another matter altogether. (7/24a)
