TOP 10 WORKOUT TRACKS FOR AUGUST: Here’s the music people are body blasting, spinning, pumping iron and otherwise sweating along with this month, according to votes cast by thousands of gym rats on Run Hundred, which we’re told is the Web's most popular workout music blog. This month's big board is dominated by pop—albeit from a variety of sources—as Mickey Mouse Club veterans like Britney and Justin Timberlake turn up alongside American Idol alumni Phillip Phillips and Kelly Clarkson. Further from the mainstream, Duck Sauce and Capital Cities contribute crossover hits, while Zedd and Avicii represent the overseas DJ contingent. Somewhere in this bunch, says webmaster Chris Lawhorn, there's a song that'll make you want to break out your running shoes.
Britney Spears - “Ooh La La” – 129 BPM
Duck Sauce - “It's You” – 128 BPM
One Direction - “Best Song Ever” – 118 BPM
Justin Timberlake - “Take Back the Night” – 109 BPM
OneRepublic - “Counting Stars” – 122 BPM
Avicii - “Wake Me Up” – 123 BPM
Phillip Phillips - “Gone, Gone, Gone” – 118 BPM
Capital Cities - “Safe and Sound” – 118 BPM
Kelly Clarkson - “People Like Us (Johnny Labs & Adieux Club Mix)” – 128 BPM
Zedd & Foxes - “Clarity (Style of Eye Remix)” – 129 BPM
Interestingly, four of the Top 10 tunes bounce along at a tempo under 120BPM, and even the fastest-paced selections top out at a hair under the gold standard of 130BPM; must be the heat. Click on any of the above titles to sample and/or buy it on iTunes or Amazon MP3. Meanwhile, at our neighborhood fitness club, we’re grunting along with totally fab L.A. sister act Haim—including the irresistible new single “The Wire.” Can’t wait till Oct. 1, when the band’s debut album Days Gone By hits on Columbia.
