radio wrap-up

RADIO WRAP-UP: Here's a rundown on yesterday's action at three key formats. If you're like us, you could use the reminder; we were pretty drunk.

TOP 40
CMG's Katy Perry dominated with her new smash, “Roar,” which got added virtually everywhere. After just a few days of airplay it flew to #13 on the pop chart, with an ultra-impressive 2700x. And here comes Lava/Republic’s Lorde! It's officially on for “Royals,” as 33 stations join in, including Z100. Look for this one to be a monster hit. Republic also shines with Drake's latest, “Hold On, We're Going Home,” and a close-out week for Enrique Iglesias. Lady Gaga dropped “Applause” and had a huge day. PRMD/Island/IDJ has a hit with Avicii, as “Wake Me Up” is now on 100 stations. Hollywood launched Selena Gomez's “Slow Down” on 25 stations. Epic's Bonnie McKee joins the 100-stations-plus list with “American Girl.”

ALTERNATIVE
RCA
ruled the day with Cage the Elephant's “Come A Little Closer,” with adds all over in its first week. Republic’s having a great first week with AFI's “17 Crimes.” Virgin’s Thirty Seconds to Mars has another strong follow-up week with “City Of Angels” as this one quickly approaches 40 stations. Other winners include The Neighbourhood's “Afraid” (Columbia), NONONO's “Pumpin Blood” (Warner Bros.) and Vampire Weekend's “Unbelievers” (XL/Beggars).

RHYTHM
Drake
’s “Hold On We're Going Home” (YM/CM/Republic) took top most-added honors, as expected. Daft Punk’s “Lose Yourself To Dance” (Columbia) came in second. Big Sean’s “Beware” (G.O.O.D. Music/Def Jam/IDJ) continued to gain new believers, as did two RCA tracks, Miley Cyrus’ “We Can't Stop” and Chris Brown f/Nicki Minaj “Love More.”

You'll be hearing (and seeing) a lot more about these tracks. Stay tuned. (8/14a)
