Box office

THOR’S WEEKEND BOX OFFICE: Thor hammered the competition this weekend (see what we did there?). It wasn’t that big a feat for a Marvel superhero, considering that the Disney sequel was the weekend’s only major debut, but good on ya, dude. With $86.1 million in domestic grosses, Thor: The Dark World surpassed the $65.7m opening of 2011’s Thor while earning $203m internationally over two weekends—making the happiest place on earth even happier.

1. Thor: The Dark World (Disney) – $86.1m, 3,841/$22,418 avg. (debut)
2. Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa (Paramount) – $11.3m (-43.5%), 3,187/$3,546 avg. (weekend 3)
3. Free Birds (Relativity) – $11.2m (-29.3%), 3,736/$2,993 avg. (weekend 2)
4. Last Vegas (CBS) – $11.1m (-32.0%), 3,082/$3,602 avg. (weekend 2)
5. Ender's Game (Lionsgate) – $10.3m (-62.1%), 3,407/$3,009 avg. (weekend 2)

Steve McQueen's well-reviewed 12 Years a Slave is shaping up as a mainstream hit. Expanding to 1,144 theaters this weekend, the Fox Searchlight film earned $6.6 million, good for #7 overall. Next weekend it’ll be on 1,300 screens. (11/11a)
