Journey donates to Philipinnes typhoon relief

MANILA ENVELOPE: As you've undoubtedly heard, Typhoon Haiyan has brought catastrophe to the Philippines. But as with every such disaster, the humanitarian response brings reason for hope. Rock icons Journey, along with promoter Live Nation, CAA and manager John Baruck, have jumped into the fray, donating more than $350k to the United Nations World Food Program (UNWFP). The contribution was sprearheaded by singer Arnel Pineda, a native of Manila; the vocalist will meet with UNWFP Executive Director Ertharin Cousin on Saturday in that city to announce the gift, which should subsidize more than 1.4 million meals for survivors of the disaster, many of whom are in desperate need of food and clean water. "Don't stop believing," the frontman said in a statement. "Help is on the way for the people of the Philippines." Donations can be made via this page or by texting AID to 27722 for an automatic $10 gift. (11/19a)
