THEY HAVE A NAME FOR THE WINNERS IN THE WORLD: According to Forbes’s post-game coverage, it was a big night not only for the Seahawks but also for Bruno Mars, who made the most of those coveted 12 minutes of mega-exposure (said to be worth $100 million in publicity); Beats by Dr. Dre (between the Ellen-starring commercial, above, and all the shots of the players with the headphones); and Passenger, whose “Let Her Go” was cleverly used in Budweiser’s corny but adorable “Puppy Love” spot. Mars manager Brandon Creed is getting big props for orchestrating his client’s biggest-ever career opportunity, while the memorable performance stands as another coup for John Janick, who signed Bruno, along with Aaron Bay-Schuck, and spearheaded the then unknown young artist’s rapid path to stardom. All of which begs the question, will Bay-Schuck leave WMG when his deal is up, or does he stay for that point he gets on Bruno's sales? On that score, Unorthodox Jukebox is both #1 and #11 this morning at iTunes, while the first album is #4. Since breaking Mars under Janick’s guidance, Atlantic has become the punchline of a cocktail party joke ("They are to the music business what surfing is to Kansas." The label could have its first good year since Janick left for Interscope—and despite Julie Greenwald and Craig Kallman apparently having checked out—because they’ll get albums from Coldplay and David Guetta as the result of WMG’s Parlophone purchase.
