St. Paul & the Broken Bones

MAKING THEIR BONES: In case you hadn't yet heard indie soulsters St. Paul & The Broken Bones—whose Single Lock album Half the City (produced by Ben Tanner of Alabama Shakes) is making noise at iTunes—here's a taste. The band's impeccable recreation of Southern R&B from the '60s would appear to be part of a small trend, as fellow traditionalists Vintage Trouble ink with Blue Note and Lake Street Dive, fresh off a solid retail debut, continue to sell out on tour. Are these blips on the radar or the first ripples of a big wave? We can't say for sure, but if you'd told us a few years back that hipster kids would embrace banjo music, we'd have said you were nuts. (3/21p)
