TURNING UP THE HOZIER: We've told you several times about Columbia singer/songwriter Hozier, most recently in the context of his post-SXSW buzz. Now he's announced new U.S. dates kicking off in May, including stops at NYC's Bowery Ballroom (5/13) and L.A.'s Troubadour (5/20) and concluding with a set at Washington's Sasquatch! Festival. A native of County Wicklow, Ireland, Andrew Hozier-Byrne was born on St. Patrick's Day, making him easily the most Irish guy we've ever heard of. But his "Take Me to Church" is steeped in American soul music and is an absolute knockout; "From Eden," meanwhile (the title track of his new EP), was recently selected by BBC Radio 1's Zane Lowe for the Hottest Record spotlight.
