Troye Sivan

THE RISE OF TROYE: If you looked at this morning's iTunes charts and asked yourself, "Who the hell is Troye Sivan?" allow us to illuminate you. The Australian-bred singer/songwriter/actor's Capitol EP, Tryxe, hit #1 on the download emporium's album chart, while his moody electro track "Happy Little Pill" levitated into the Top 5 on the singles leaderboard. How did this happen? The kid is a YouTube phenom with 2.5m channel subscribers (the "Pill" vid above has gotten nearly 200k views in under 12 hours), and his social activity is—as people who pretend to know "what the kids say" like to say—blowing up. The EP was #1 in pre-orders down under, making EMI Australia's John O'Donnell and crew happier than a kookaburra in an old gum tree. Whatever that means. (7/25p)
