Eminem’s the man. With 10 Grammy nominations, including Best Album, Record and Song of the Year, Slim Shady topped the field announced during and after tonight’s prime-time special on CBS.
Bruno Mars was next up, with seven; including Record of the Year and Song of the Year for co-penning Cee Lo’s viral sensation, “F*** You” with the Smeezingtons (nominated for Producers of the Year) and his own collaboration with B.o.B., “Nothin’ on You,” which will go up against the Cee Lo track in Record of the Year.
Record of the Year nominee Jay-Z, Album, Record and Song of the Year noms Lady Antebellum and Album of the Year candidate Lady Gaga each earned six nods.
Jeff Beck, B.o.B, David Frost, Philip Lawrence and John Legend receive five each; while Alex Da Kid, the Black Keys, Drake, Cee Lo Green, Ari Levine, Katy Perry, Rihanna, the Roots, Dirk Sobotka and Zac Brown each have four nominations.
Among the HITS pre-show touts, Mumford & Sons took home a pair of nominations, including Best New Artist, joining Justin Bieber, Drake, Florence + the Machine and long shot Esperanza Spalding, a young jazz bassist and composer.
Perry scored a neat four play with nominations for Best Album, Best Pop Vocal Album, Best Pop Female Vocal Performance for "Teenage Dream" and Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals for "California Gurls."
"This year's nominations are a true reflection of an exceptional and talented community of music makers that embody some of the highest levels of excellence and artistry in their respective fields," said The Recording Academy’s Neil Portnow. "It is most gratifying to see the Grammy Awards process once again produce a broad cross-section of diverse and impressive nominees across multiple genres. Coupled with the third year of our primetime nominations special, the road to Music's Biggest Night, the 53rd Annual Grammy Awards in February, is off to an exciting start." Hey, wake up.. he finished talking.
The 53rd Annual Grammy Awards will be held Sunday, Feb. 13, at the Staples Center and air on CBS from 8-11:30 p.m.
