Is this a happy Jack world or what? I don’t care what Client 9 says.
Arista Nashville’s Alan Jackson tops the list of Jacksons as his latest album, Good Time, debuts at #1 on the HITS Album Sales chart with a first-week total of 118k.
Brushfire/Universal Republic’s Jack Johnson continues to Sleep Through the Static at #2, just ahead of a pair of Jackson siblings in Def Jam/IDJ’s Janet and Sony Legacy’s Michael, up an impressive 20%.
The week’s Top 10 newcomers include SideOneDummy Irish punk stalwarts Flogging Molly (through ADA) with Float at #5, and Black Crowes’ Warpaint, the blues-rock jam band’s first new studio album in seven years, on their own Silver Arrow label (through RED) at #6.
J’s Alicia Keys (#7), Epic’s Sara Bareilles (#8), Universal Motown’s Erykah Badu (#9) and Big Machine/Universal Republic’s Taylor Swift (#10) round out the Top 10.
Universal Motown’s latest Michael McDonald covers album, Soul Speak (#12) and Inside Records’ Jackson Browne Solo Acoustic, Vol. 2 (#25) are the week’s other chart debuts, while XL/Beggars’ Upper West Side Soweto pop-rock outfit Vampire Weekend returns on the strength of their SNL performance last weekend.
After Michael Jackson, other weekly gainers include 19/Jive/ZLG’s Jordin Sparks (#45-33, +13%), Verve Album of the Year Grammy winner Herbie Hancock’s River: The Joni Letters (#41-30, +12%), Bareilles (+6%), Lyric Street’s Rascal Flatts (#48-43, +3%), Hollywood’s still-selling Jonas Brothers (#27-24, +2%) and Swift (#13-10, +1%).
Hitting this week and expected to vie for the top spot next Tuesday are SBMG’s Now 27 (through John Ingrassia’s Commercial Music Group), IDJ’s Rick Ross and Snoop Dogg’s Geffen album, Ego Trippin’, with Terror Squad/Capitol’s Fat Joe and Concord’s American Idol judge Randy Jackson also in stores.
The next event album after that will be Mariah Carey’s E=MC2 on L.A. Reid’s IDJ label, scheduled for retail April 15.
