Next week, we draw a little closer to the Q4 rush, with Def Jam/IDJ’s Miami hip-hopper Rick Ross “Hustlin’” his way to a possible chart-topping total between 125-150k.

DMX’S DOG HAS ITS DAY!

Sony Urban/Columbia Rapper’s Label Debut Edges Out Now 22, Kidz Bop Kids 10, Five for Fighting Bow Top 10
Just call it a “dog bites retail” story.

Rapper DMX’s Sony Urban/Columbia debut, Year of the Dog... Again, sits atop this week’s HITS album chart, with a debut of 130k, give or take a couple of kibbles or bits.

That was enough to push Sony Music’s Now 22 to the #2 slot, with 126k in sales. Razor & Tie’s Kidz Bop Kids 10, with pre-pubescents warbling many of the same tunes, bowed at #3 with a grand total of 113k. Ain’t life a hoot?

The other Top 10 debuts are registered by Roadrunner metallists Stone Sour, featuring two members of Slipknot, at #4, selling 85k, and Columbia’s Five for Fighting, which gives Steve Barnett and company three of the Top 10, with a #6 debut and 54k sold.

The rest of the Top 10 includes last week’s #1, Capitol R&B diva LeToya, at #5, American/WB’s Tom Petty (#7), Downtown/Atlantic’s Gnarls Barkley (#8), Star Trak/Interscope’s Pharrell (#9) and the year’s best-selling rock record, Roadrunner/ IDJ’s Nickelback (#10), giving the rock specialist an impressive two among the Top 10.

Universal Republic’s G. Love, going sans Special Sauce, is the week’s other chart newcomer, landing at #38. Show Dog Nashville/Universal’s Toby Keith (#35) and Interscope’s All-American Rejects (#45) return to the Top 50, representing the Red and Blue States, respectively.

Curb’s Tim McGraw (#29-23, +11%) and Virgin’s KT Tunstall (#39-32, +10%) score double-digit increases, followed by Universal Republic’s Hinder (#20, +9%) and Virgin’s 30 Seconds to Mars (#40, +7%).

Next week, we draw a little closer to the Q4 rush, with Def Jam/IDJ’s Miami hip-hopper Rick Ross “Hustlin’” his way to a possible chart-topping total between 125-150k, and Bad Boy/Atlantic’s Cassie and Hollywood’s Breaking Benjamin both on target to best six figures in first-week sales.
