MORE ON THE DE-VIRGINIZING: During his first week as Virgin Chairman/CEO, Jason Flom wasted no time in signing Jacksonville, FL-based band Red Jumpsuit Apparatus. Obviously, it’s the first signing for Flom at the label. On top of that, he has made his first A&R hire by bringing in Steven Tramposch to handle A&R research for the company. Tramposch was previously at Elektra in an A&R research capacity. Accomplishing all this within a week of his arrival sends a message out to the A&R and artist communities that the new CEO is here to play. Meanwhile, word from inside the Virgin New York offices is that there is new excitement in the air. Morale is up and folks inside the label say it’s already a different ballgame at Virgin. Expect more plays to come, as rumors of executive changes/additions are said to be in the works… Lots of chatter building on the Rich Egan-managed Saves the Day. As you may recall, the band was previously signed to DreamWorks, but since the label was folded into the Universal Music Group, they’re out of their deal. Armed with a new record, the free agents are currently on tour with Senses Fail and are packing the shows. This one was a heated derby the last time around. Stand by… Buzz continues on Indie 103.1 radio fave Nico Vega. Reports are in that the group is in
