50 FIRST DATES HAS $41 MILLION FOR FIRST PLACE

Date Movie Big on Ultimate Date Movie Weekend
You’d have to have been in some sort of accident that caused you to forget things to not know that a romantic comedy starring Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore, opening on Valentine’s Day weekend would open huge and take the box office crown. So, 50 First Dates, starring a brain-damaged Barrymore, who has an accident that causes her to forget the previous day and the ever-wacky Sandler, took in $41 million over the weekend. That makes it the second-highest February opening ever, behind Hannibal’s $58 million.

Sandler and Barrymore also fell in love in The Wedding Singer, which opened Valentine’s weekend 1998.
