We’ve got a lot of ground to cover here, so we won’t bore you with any of the usual philosophical crap.
According to early reports from national accounts, OutKast’s new double album, Speakerboxxx/The Love Below (Arista), is on track to sell as many as 500k units for the week, followed by Dave Matthews’ solo debut, Some Devil (RCA), which looks like it will move over 450k.
OutKast is out in front after one day of sales and will, in all likelihood, score a big #1 on next week’s chart. There are stock issues with the title, however, and while Arista expects these problems to be solved quickly, they appear to be significant enough to potentially halt sales at the 450k level.
That means the rap duo’s #1 debut could be in doubt, especially if the Matthews album, which is generating major sales from the Matthews web site, picks up steam over the course of the week. It ain't a horserace yet, but it could turn into one.
That being said, Matthews is the likely #2 at this point, followed by Limp Bizkit’s Results May Vary (Flip/Geffen). After one day on sale, that album appears likely to sell shy of 350k for the week.
Next up are Shady/Aftermath/Interscope rapper Obie Trice and Jive R&B superstar R. Kelly, whose Cheers and The R in R&B: Collection Vol. 1, respectively, are on track to reach first-week sales totals of around 250k apiece.
Meanwhile, Nickelback’s The Long Road (Roadrunner/IDJ) should sell around 200k for the week, while Murphy Lee’s Murphy’s Law (Universal) will likely move around 150k, and Fuel’s Natural Selection should come in just shy of 100k. Geffen's Rob Zombie CD/DVD greatest hits collection, Past, Present and Future, hot on the heels of the successful DVD release of House of 1,000 Corpses, could well do between 70-80k.
This concludes your no-nonsense one-day sales report. Funny? No time—gotta go.PRE-GRAMMY GALA GOES GAGA FOR GERSON
