MTV’S BIG TEN SPINNING

Channel’s Rotations Increases Have Top Videos Getting up to 50 Spins a Week
Tom Calderone wasn’t kidding.

When MTV/MTV2’s Exec. VP Music & Talent Programming told us about the station’s new "Big Ten" rotation philosophy, "We decided that the TV superstars that our audience cares about should be put at a higher level than the others" (see related story), he apparently meant business.

The fruits of the channel’s research has yielded increased plays for MTV’s most popular clips, with the "Big Ten" garnering from 38 to 52 weekly spins, a major boost over the 30 or so given to top-played videos in the past.

Justin Timberlake’s "Cry Me a River" topped the list this week, with 52 spins for the week, up 40 from the week before, across all dayparts.

The rest of "The Big Ten" went as follows:

2) Jay-Z featuring Beyonce, "Bonnie & Clyde 2003": 49

3) Eminem, "Lose Yourself": 48

4) Jennifer Lopez, "Jenny From the Block": 48

5) Snoop Dogg, "From the Chuuuch to da Palace": 48

6) Missy Elliott, "Work It": 46

7) Christina Aguilera, "Beautiful": 44

8) Busta Rhymes, "Make It Clap": 42

9) Good Charlotte, "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous": 41

10) John Mayer, "Your Body Is a Wonderland": 38

Calderone is confident the increased spins will have positive results in the marketplace: "We are serious about selling music and breaking bands. The more impressions, the more penetration, the better the sales."
