BARBERSHOP 2 CUTS COMPETITION

Comedy Flick Sets Up as Franchise
The movie industry should bow down to Ice Cube, since his latest movie, Barbershop 2, brought in $25.1 million over the weekend, to land at the top of the box office. The movie stars Cube and Cedric the Entertainmer, and introduced Queen Latifah as a salon owner next door, setting up her spinoff movie coming this Thanksgiving.

Miracle, Kurt Russell’s film about the heroic 1980 U.S. Olympic hockey team’s victory over the evil Soviet team, opened in second with $19.4 million. All you need to know is the chant “U-S-A.” That, and Will Ferrell’s Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy is only seven months away.

The week’s other big opener was Catch That Kid, which opened at #6 with $6 million

Here’s the rest of the top 10: #3 You Got Served ($7.7m); #4 Along Came Polly ($7m); #5 The Butterfly Effect ($6.7m); #7 The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King ($4.4m); #8 Monster ($3.51m); #9 Mystic River ($3.5m); #10 Cold Mountain ($3.2m).
