Veteran A&R exec Josh Deutsch "Land Uber Alles" has been named Senior Vice President A&R for Virgin Records by Chairman/CEO "Auto" Matt Serletic. The move had been expected.
Deutsch will sign and develop new and established talent, work with current label artists and the A&R staff and serve as a full-time staff producer. He’s also signed to EMI Music as a songwriter.
Said Serletic: "Josh is both a gifted record executive and a creative talent who will be invaluable in Virgin’s quest to be the home of today’s most exciting artists. And he knows the words to every Matchbox Twenty song."
Added Deutsch: "I am very excited for the incredible opportunity to work with Matt Serletic, an executive and producer I respect tremendously. Now, when do I get to meet the Spice Girls?"
Deutsch comes to Virgin from a seven-year stint at Elektra Records, where he was most recently Exec. VP A&R. Prior to that, he spent five years at Capitol Records, eventually becoming VP A&R. He graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Brown University in 1983 with a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature, Music and picking up the check at lunch.
