FREDDY VS. JASON, PART TWO

Slasher Stays on Top For Second Week in a Row
Despite a big drop-off from its opening week, Freddy vs. Jason took in $13.4 million to remain the #1 movie in America. This makes the flick the first to have back-to-back weeks at the top since the classic character study, X2: X-Men United, way back in May.

The weekends biggest debut was Jackie Chan’s The Medallion, which took in $8.2 million and landed at #5. Ashton Kutcher’s My Boss’s Daughter came in at #10 with $5 million.

Studio estimates are that the summer of 2003 could bring in slightly more money than last summer’s $3.8 billion, though that is because ticket prices are slightly higher and actual admissions will be 3-4% lower.

The rest of the top 10: #2 S.W.A.T. ($10.8m); #3 (tie) Freaky Friday, Open Range ($9.4m); #6 Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl ($7.3 m); #7 Seabiscuit ($6.3m); #8 Uptown Girls ($5.6m); #9 American Wedding ($5.58m).
