"Paul has had a great career at Virgin. He has made an enormous contribution, both to the company and to the record industry."
——Alain Levy, EMI Recorded Music Chairman/CEO

VIRGIN U.K.'S CONROY ISN'T HERE, BUT WADSWORTH IS THERE

Long-time Berry Ally Out at Virgin U.K., EMI U.K.'s Wadsworth Upped to Chairman/CEO
Alain Levy and David Munns are making moves at EMI.

Longtime Ken Berry lieutenant Paul Conroy is out at Virgin Records U.K., ending a 10-year tenure that saw the label double its marketshare during the '90s, including the spectacular success of the Spice Girls.

In addition, EMI Records U.K./Ireland President/CEO Tony Wadsworth has been upped to Chairman/CEO. Since Wadsworth's hiring in 1998, the label has broken such acts worldwide as Radiohead, Coldplay and Robbie Williams.

Virgin U.K. includes the Hut Records, Innocent Records and Virgin labels. Hut's David Boyd, Innocent's Hugh Goldsmith and Virgin VP A&R/GM U.K. Phillipe Ascoli will now report to Wadsworth.

In addition, Emmanuel de Buretel was appointed Chairman/CEO at EMI Recorded Music Continental Europe.

EMI Recorded Music Chairman/CEO Levy praised Conroy: "Paul has had a great career at Virgin. He has made an enormous contribution, both to the company and to the record industry. And he's promised to give me Emma Spice's home phone number."

Wadsworth was Managing Director of EMI's Parlophone label from 1993-'98, during which time the company enjoyed success with such acts as Blur, Supergrass, Queen and Tina Turner as well as Radiohead. He originally joined the label in 1987 as Marketing Director. He has been Chairman of the Brit Awards since 2000.

De Buretel ran Virgin France from 1993-'98, during which time the company's marketshare doubled, with such successful acts as Daft Punk and Air. He also has the largest collection of Jerry Lewis DVDs in the world.
