"This new role is yet another opportunity for a music executive of Bob’s skill and reputation to broaden BMG’s creative footprint."
——BMG boss
Rolf Schmidt-Holtz

JAMIESON BECOMES HANDS-ON LEADER OF RCA MUSIC GROUP

Expanded Entity Will Include RCA Records, RCA Nashville, RCA Victor and Other BMG Properties
It’s officially the start of a new era for Nipper and friends.

BMG Entertainment N.A. President/CEO Robert Jamieson has been tapped as Chairman of an expanded RCA Music Group by BMG Chairman/CEO Rolf Schmidt-Holtz.

As part of the restructuring, RCA Records President/CEO Jack Rovner has left the company (see related story).

Said Jamieson of Rovner, "I wish Jack all the best for the future and want to thank him for his friendship and many contributions to RCA."

In this new role, Jamieson will oversee a group of labels including RCA Records, RCA Label Group—Nashville and RCA Victor Group, as well as take responsibility for creating new labels under the Label Group umbrella.

Said Schmidt-Holtz: "The restructuring of RCA Music Group represents the latest step in our campaign to focus our resources and efforts on artist development and creativity. We continue to build a more A&R-driven organization on a worldwide basis, and an important part of this strategy is to have our executives as close to the creative process as possible.

"Last year," Schmidt-Holtz continued, "I called on Bob to oversee the restructuring of our North America business units, a job he performed brilliantly. This new role is yet another opportunity for a music executive of Bob’s skill and reputation to broaden BMG’s creative footprint. And he’s agreed to wear a pith helmet and iron cross to the office everyday, too."

Added Jamieson: "I am pleased to return to my first passion, which is working closely with artists and those in the A&R process. The new RCA Music Group will be an A&R powerhouse, and I am thrilled to have the opportunity to take it to a new level. And now I can give up moonlighting as guitar tech for The Strokes."

In his new role, Jamieson will once again have direct responsibility for the RCA label, where he served as President until his appointment as BMG N.A. President/CEO in January 2001. In that post, Jamieson oversaw BMG’s business units in North America, but the job effectively removed him from the hands-on role he’d previously played.

Under Jamieson’s leadership, RCA experienced several years of record-breaking sales and marketshare. In 2000, he played a major role in the consolidation of BMG Classics and Windham Hill with RCA Records to form the original RCA Music Group.

Before joining RCA in 1995, Jamieson was President/GM of BMG Music Canada. Previously, he was Exec. VP of PolyGram Records U.S. and held a number of positions at CBS Records (now Sony) in the U.S., Europe and Australia.
