Making an official move to act on an issue other than modifying California’s seven year statute, the still-nascent RAC says the study, organized by the Future of Music Coalition, will research and substantiate the healthcare needs of musicians so that RAC will be able to help more musicians get coverage.
The FMC, a non-profit organization seeking to help musicians make sustainable livings through resolution of technological and other issues, will undertake the study with three main objectives: An online survey where musicians will be asked to document and quantify their difficulties obtaining affordable health insurance in order to establish the extent of the problem; a comparison and critique of five existing health insurance plans aimed at musicians; and an assessment of the unique healthcare issues faced by working musicians, with recommendations for further action.
FMC Directof Jenny Toomey will lead the study.
Said RAC leader Don Henley, "the Recording Artists Coalition is concerned with a broad range of issues, including health care. Jenny is an independent artist and a strong ally of RAC. I can’t think of anyone more committed and capable, and RAC is quite pleased to be working with her."
Once complete, the FMC will publish its findings and work with RAC and selected insurance experts to take further action
