Tickets for the event go on sale this Friday (10/12) with proceeds going to the American Red Cross Relief Fund, the Pentagon Relief Fund and the Salvation Army Relief Fund.
"Music is a common language that brings people together in times of triumph and sadness," said Clear Channel Entertainment Chairman/CEO Brian Becker. "Another common language is gesturing, but all-star mimes, frankly, are few and far between."
Clear Channel is also producing "Stand Up New York" benefit comedy festival featuring Jerry Seinfeld and Bill Cosby, among others, taking place tonight; the "Concert for the Americas" at Madison Square Garden on Oct. 20; and the "Country Freedom Concert" in Nashville on Oct. 21.
In other Clear Channel news, the company will reportedly acquire another media property, the Ackerley Group, in an all-stock deal worth approximately $800 million, including $294 of Ackerely Group debt. The deal is pending approval of Ackerley stockholders and regulatory approval, and is expected to be completed by the first half of next year. Because what’s the FCC going to say, no?
Ackerley operates the nation’s fourth-largest outdoor media company, owns or operates 18 television stations and owns two FM and two Seattle radio stations, including KUBE and 95.7 The Beat. It also includes a venture capital division, Ackerley Ventures.
Said Lowry Mays, Chairman and CEO Clear Channel Communications: "We are very excited to have the Ackerley Group join Clear Channel family. They have assembled a truly unique set of assets with top quality personnel that will be a great complement to Clear Channel. Also, they help us to be even more unstoppably huge."
