"We have created a more cohesive unit and set up the organization to continue as the most dominant radio player in the #1 radio market in the U.S. as it is today…into tomorrow."

CLEAR CHANNEL'S CUTS RUN
DEEP IN L.A.

45 Area Stations Consolidate Staff, 48 Employees Affected, Among Them KYSR PD Angela Perelli

Clear Channel Radio Los Angeles has reorganized its staff as part of a consolidation of the 45 previously independently operated radio stations it operates in the L.A. Trading Area.

The company confirmed that "technology advances, combined with duplication of roles in a consolidated environment, slower than anticipated economy and the opportunity to serve our listeners in new and better ways were at the heart of the reorganization."

Staff will be reduced by 48 employees in the Internet division, radio stations and special event division. As part of the cutbacks, hitsdailydouble.com has learned that KYSR PD Angela Perelli will exit and her post will be assumed by KIIS PD John Ivey.

Clear Channel L.A. Regional Business Manager Jim Murphy said: "We were empowered to make these 45 radio stations work more as one team than at any time in radio's history. The tough part is that our team did a good job of dominating revenue and managing our expenses through the year. But here we are in December with our projected 'upturn' less than anticipated, so we had to organize to that reality."

In other words, bah, humbug.

Clear Channel Regional VP Roy Laughlin said: "Once the organization is completed, the Clear Channel L.A. Trading Area radio division will still have an L.A. workforce of nearly 600 employees. We have created a more cohesive unit and set up the organization to continue as the most dominant radio player in the #1 radio market in the U.S. as it is today…into tomorrow. We are deeply committed to excellent listener, advertiser and community service that has yielded our cluster the top Arbitron-rated and revenue-generating position in L.A. We are pushing our foot further down on the accelerator for fourth quarter 2001 and 2002 with some stunning industry innovation on the horizon."

Added Sr. VP Programming Steve Smith: "Our PDs and air staffs within the region will be focused like never before on helping each other take our product performance to new heights."
