Ol' Dirty Bastard was sentenced Friday (10/12) to two years in prison in Los Angeles Superior Court for possession of body armor.
The sentence will run concurrently with his current prison sentence at the New York State Correctional Institute for criminal possession of a controlled substance. In addition to his "two for one" sentence, ODB also will receive close to a year's credit for time already served in Los Angeles jails, thanks to his low-interest Platinum card.
The Los Angeles charges arose after the Wu-Tang Clan rapper fled a Southern California drug treatment center in 2000, thereby violating his original sentence—a 1999 felony conviction of wearing a bulletproof vest. He was later apprehended in a McDonald’s parking lot in South Philadelphia (hitsdailydouble.com, 11/28/00), where he was swapping conviction stories with the Hamburglar.
ODB, whose real name is Russell Jones, is eligible for parole on both states in 2002. Meanwhile, Elektra Records has been helping ODB pay the lawyer bills by releasing The Dirty Story: The Best of Ol' Dirty Bastard in August.
