"As we stand at the dawn of a 'new entertainment economy,' I believe there is tremendous growth opportunity in the area of Urban music even as we transition into this new culture."

THAT'S GUIDRY, DEMMETTE, AT WB

Veteran Urban Music Exec Moves Over From Columbia
"Hail Fellow, Well" Demmette Guidry has been named Senior Vice President of Urban Music for Warner Bros. Records Inc. by Chairman/CEO Russ Thyret and company President Phil Quartararo.

The New York-based Guidry will develop and execute all marketing and promotion strategies for the company's entire Urban music roster while reporting to Quartararo. He will also be in charge of overdubbing new vocals on all the old Prince masters before re-releasing them as Morris Day albums.

Guidry's career began when he was an intern in video promotion for Motown Records. In '89, he joined Arista Records as a W.C. Club/Street Rep. He joined Columbia Records in '90 as W.C. Promotions Mgr. before being named National Director of R&B/Jazz Promotions. In '95, Guidry moved from L.A. to New York as VP Marketing for Columbia. He was named Sr. VP Urban Music for the label in January '98. While at Columbia, he worked with such artists as the Fugees, Maxwell, Nas, Kenny Lattimore, Wyclef Jean, Destiny's Child, Jagged Edge, Da Brat and others. He's also been instrumental in the success of Mariah Carey, LL Cool J, Cypress Hill, Public Enemy, Kris Kross, Nancy Wilson, Grover Washington Jr., Branford Marsalis and Will Smith.

Commented Thyret: "Demmette has a well-earned reputation for both his extraordinary musical instincts and his ability to transform those instincts into creative and commercial success. He also happens to be a real gentleman. Just this morning, he put his coat over a mud puddle so I wouldn't get my Air Jordans wet."

Added Quartararo: "You only have to look at the weekly charts to understand how important the world of urban music is to the success of any record company. Demmette brings with him a wealth of experience, close relationships and a long history of making things happen in this realm. Best of all, he's teaching me how to pop, lock and breakdance."

Added Guidry: "This is an exciting time in our industry. As we stand at the dawn of a 'new entertainment economy,' I believe there is tremendous growth opportunity in the area of Urban music even as we transition into this new culture. In my new capacity, I look forward to working with Russ and Phil and the senior staff of Warner Bros. Records to establish an even stronger presence for our artists on a worldwide basis. And I can't wait tomeet a true industry legend such as Mo Ostin. Whaddya mean he's not here anymore?"
