MAC USERS TUNE IN TO iTUNES

Apple’s Digital Music Software Surpasses A Quarter-Million Downloads In A Week
An Apple a day won't keep digital music users away, as users have flocked to sample the new Macintosh jukebox program.

Since its unveiling last week, Apple's iTunes has been downloaded more than 275,000 times. The demand has nearly doubled that of Apple's iMovie editing software, which was downloaded 150,000 times in the week following its launch last May.

iTunes allows users to import songs from CDs, compress them into the MP3 format and customize their own CDs. While the system is installed in around 22 million Macs, operating system 9.0.4 or higher is needed for iTunes.

The new system marks Apple's delayed foray into digital music. Chief Executive Steve Jobs admitted the company had shunned music in the past. "Now that we're entering the digital music frontier," said Jobs. "I can get a rock star to portray me in the next biopic. I'm thinking either Jon Bon Jovi or Marky Mark."
