"We had three days to complete the video. My idea was to show people what it’s really like to be Lenny Kravitz the person, as opposed to the rock star. And it’s the start of a whole new career for me."

KRAVITZ HITS AGAIN & "AGAIN"

Double-Grammy Winner Returns With "Greatest Hits" Collection, New Video In "Again"
Lenny Kravitz is probably one of the best-kept secrets in rock & roll.

Coming off two of the biggest hits of his career in "Fly Away" (click here to see the unedited clip) and his cover of The Guess Who's "American Woman," the Grammy winner for Best Rock Male Performance the last two years arrives with a career retrospective Oct. 24. "Greatest Hits" includes 14 songs from his five previous albums as well as one brand-new track, "Again," the video for which—featuring a cameo by Virgin's Nancy Berry, who also penned the treatment for the clip—can be streamed by clicking above.

"We had three days to complete the video," says Berry. "My idea was to show people what it's really like to be Lenny Kravitz the person, as opposed to the rock star. It's one of those rare instances where you have a strong song with a strong video, creating something bigger than both of them. And it's the start of a whole new career for me."

"Lenny Kravitz is God," said Virgin Records America Co-President Ray Cooper. "No, wait a second. Nancy Berry is God. Lenny is Vice-God."

"The last three singles were all hits at radio," added Sr. VP Promotion Michael Plen, perfecting his Attack Hamster technique to get another smash. "With so many new Lenny fans out there, we didn't want to wait until next summer for a new record. He wrote a great single, and it made sense to keep Lenny's current fan base in tune with what he's doing and educate them to five records of great material."

"Greatest Hits" is the first Kravitz album since 1998's breakthrough "5" album, which sold triple-Platinum in the U.S. and more than 6 million copies around the world. "It's a blessing for me to have the opportunity to put this record out," he said. "Especially in an era when careers are short and very disposable."

Kravitz has been on Virgin America since his '89 debut, "Let Love Rule," and the album features such songs as his #2-charting '91 breakthrough, "It Ain't Over ‘Til It's Over," and his Top 15 U.S. single, "Are You Gonna Go My Way."

"Again" was recorded at Kravitz's home studio in Miami, which he named Roxy Studios after his late mother, TV actress Roxy Roker. This week's Wildcard pick was cut just a month ago, when Kravitz had it slated for a projected sixth album. "Out of all the stuff I'd recorded, that was the newest and I thought most appropriate to stand on its own. It's a real sing-along type song. Very simple, but with a lot of feeling."
