In addition to creating an outlet to circulate hits from artists no longer affiliated with the label, the deal creates the opportunity for fans to create custom CDs and personalize everything from liner notes to cover art, as well as sample music through downloads and streaming media. Plus, visitors can mix their favorite Death Row songs with other music from musicmaker.com's roster. Each custom CD holds approximately 70 minutes of music and costs about $13.95.
"Working through Death Row music enabled us to obtain this important collection of a genre of music that speaks to much of the youth of today," said Irwin Steinberg, Vice Chairman of the Board and consultant to musicmaker.com.
Death Row consultant and Just Us, Inc. music attorney Steven Machat added, "We chose musicmaker.com because they are a savvy music company that offers unique alternatives to distribute this important music directly to consumers. Plus, they're one of the few companies that doesn't have a restraining order against our executives, which makes business dealings much easier."
