THE SCORE AT THE THREE-QUARTER MARK

The Latest in a Series of Regular Updates
The standings as we hit the first week of fall aren’t much changed since our last update in mid-August, apart from the fact that the hottest labels are even hotter: Steve Barnett’s Capitol Music Group has added another .4 of a percentage point to its industry-leading frontline share, while Monte Lipman’s Republic has powered into the #2 slot behind a .7% uptick. But change is in the air, as I.B. Bad points out in his latest analysis on the opposite page. Republic’s Q4 release schedule is absolutely loaded, which should enable Lipman to slice off bigger pieces of both frontline and TEA pies. Republic’s biggest challenger may well turn out to be Rob Stringer’s Columbia, which boasts a couple of potentially massive Q4 releases of its own. But any smash released in the fourth quarter will have to be massive indeed to overtake the Frozen OST, which has powered Ken Bunt’s Disney into the thick of the frontline action this year.
