GOT AMA NOMS IF YOU WANT ’EM
Nicki and Rihanna Lead the Field in This Year’s Fan-Voted Pre-Thanksgiving Spectacle
The list of nominees for the annual musical popularity contest known as the American Music Awards is in the books, and it’s dominated, of course, by the usual suspects. Nicki Minaj and Rihanna, pick up four noms apiece; stroking treys are Drake, Justin Bieber, Maroon 5, One Direction and Usher; hitting doubles are Carrie Underwood, Chris Brown, fun., Gotye, J.Cole, Katy Perry, Kelly Clarkson, Luke Bryan and Pitbull. The New Artist category looks be a fan-voted dogfight on paper, although the diehard tween fans of One Direction likely have the dedicated ground forces to prevail.

As for what’s new this year, EDM gets a category, not surprisingly. But then, the AMAs are not about surprises; the show is about celebrating the inevitable. A surprise would be alternative noms The Black Keys actually showing up.

As for performers, the only one we know for sure is Christina Aguilera, who announced the nominations. The identities of performers and presenters will be revealed

Fan voting is underway at amavote.com and AMA.abc.com. ABC will air the AMAs live (on the East Coast and Midwest, that is) from the Nokia Theatre on Nov. 18. And now for the nominees…
