WALK OF FAME ADDS RYMAN LUMINARIES, LITTLE BIG TOWN
8/30/17

Ryman Auditorium has long been one of Nashville’s most iconic venues. Now, two of its key architects will be inducted into the Music City Walk of Fame. One of Ryman’s current residents, Little Big Town, in the midst of a year-long residency at the Mother Church, will also be inducted, the Nashville Visitor & Convention Corp. announced.

Tom Ryman was a riverboat captain and Nashville businessman who built the former Union Gospel Tabernacle, which opened in 1892. Upon his death in 1904, the building was renamed Ryman Auditorium. Lula C. Naff managed the auditorium for more than 40 years and booked the Grand Ole Opry, housed at the Ryman from 1943 to 1974. Under her watch, the Ryman also hosted boxing matches, livestock auctions and political debates. Little Big Town, of course, has been one of country’s most durable and successful groups for nearly two decades.

“Tom Ryman had a vision. Lula Naff had a plan. And their tenacity and skill created one of Nashville’s most beautiful and iconic buildings–and one of the greatest music venues the world has ever seen,” Mayor Megan Barry said. “Now Little Big Town is adding a new chapter to the story of the Mother Church of Country Music with its unprecedented Ryman residency. The induction of each of these legends into the Music City Walk of Fame couldn’t be more appropriate as the Ryman celebrates 125 years of gorgeous music and amazing history.”

The induction ceremony–free and open to the public–takes place 9/14 in Walk of Fame Park.
