THE BALLSTREET JOURNAL

I hope everyone enjoyed Memorial Day Weekend with their family and friends. I also hope that you remembered that it’s about much more than BBQing and partying; it’s a time to reflect and thank all of the servicemen and women who have and are protecting our great country. This also officially signifies summer! The pools are open, and you can now wear white and not be judged… The battle is on for the next #1 record. Epic’s Sujit Kundu has two horses in the race. Future’s “Mask Off” (A1/Freebandz) is at #3, up 630 spins, and now has a Kendrick Lamar remix to freshen it up. Sujit also has the red-hot DJ Khaled f/Bieber, Quavo, Chance The Rapper & Lil Wayne’s “I’m the One” (We the Best). That one’s up 755 spins, and moves #9-5. Epic also has French Montana f/Swae Lee’s “Unforgettable” (Bad Boy) at #16, gaining 375 spins. Camila Cabello’s “Crying in the Club” (SYCO) lands at #56 after just one week of airplay. It’s up 230 spins. Then there’s Rick Ross f/Young Thug & Wale’s “Trap Trap Trap,” which is at #77 and is just getting started... Columbia has the other record in the mix for #1: Calvin Harris f/Frank Ocean & Migos’ “Slide.” Ayelet Schiffman and James White have it at #2 on the chart, gaining 430 spins. Considering the short week, it will be very interesting to see what stations move their powers around. This is anyone’s race. Ayo & Teo’s “Rolex,” meanwhile, moves inside the Top 20, up 190 spins. The Chainsmokers & Coldplay’s “Something Just Like This” (Disruptor) is nearing the Top 25. It was up 115 spins. They’re also gearing up for the impact of a new Russ track, “Me You,” next week... Republic’s Gary Spangler and Davey Dee have a goal to get Post Malone f/Quavo’s “Congratulations” in the Top 5. It’s currently at #6, after gaining 95 spins this week. Luis Fonsi & Daddy Yankee f/Justin Bieber’s “Despacito” (UMLE/RBMG/Def Jam) leaps to #12, thanks to a 660-spin increase. The Weeknd’s “Reminder” (XO) was up 270 spins, and moves to #20, while Drake’s “Portland” (YMCMB) climbs inside the Top 25, adding 230 spins to his total. Nav’s “Myself” (XO) has an impressive week, gaining more than 150 spins and landing at #35. Liam Payne f/Quavo’s “Strip That Down” sees a 350-spin first week, putting him at #46. He’s sure to have a solid debut next week… Def Jam’s Rick Sackheim and Noah Sheer see great weeks from both Logic f/Alessia Cara & Khalid’s “1-800-273-8255” and Big Sean’s “Jump Out the Window” (G.O.O.D.). Logic was up 400 spins, coming in at #31, while Big Sean was up 340 spins to debut at #32. 2 Chainz f/Quavo’s “Good Drank” continues to develop and is at #45. They’re impacting another 2 Chainz record, “It’s A Vibe,” which features Ty Dolla $ign. And YG f/DJ Mustard’s “Pop It, Shake It” continues to develop... RCA’s Inca and Lori G have Chris Brown’s “Privacy” at #18, gaining 110 spins. Kid Ink f/Ty Dolla $ign’s “F With U” (Tha Alumni/88 Classic) sees 170 new spins this week, moving him to #26. They also debut Bryson Tiller’s “Somethin’ Tells Me” at #40 this week. It gains 235 spins. Wizkid f/Drake’s “Come Closer” (Starboy) is at #47 and still growing... Over at Glassnote, Childish Gambino’s “Redbone” moves to #11, up 290 spins this week. He’s looking to enter the Top 10 this coming week.
