It was a very solid week for Warner’s Team B Dot Scales, who scores 42 adds on NLE Choppa’s “AIN’T GONNA ANSWER” f/Lil Wayne. Meanwhile, Davey Dee and Republic see 19 new stations come in on the newly impacted “Pretty Girls Walk” by Big Boss Vette. Dixie Tipton and Capitol remain hot as they pick up 11 stations each on Doechii x Kodak Black’s “What It Is” and Toosii’s “Favorite Song.” Dixie also nabs six more believers on Ice Spice’s “In Ha Mood” (10K Projects), while Def Jam’s Noah Sheer adds four commitments to Hitkidd’s “Shabooya” (Blac Noize!) this week.
Davey Dee and Republic hold Coi Leray’s “Players” at #1 again this week. This is important considering it was the first song the label/UMG released with the new “reduced rate” promo budget. There was obviously a lot of skepticism and uncertainty, but the record turned out to be too big at multiple formats to ignore. Others have followed, like Metro Boomin and even Drake, and they have gone #1 as well.
It’s still too early to tell if records without a marquee name or metrics that are “too impressive to ignore” will find their way to the top, or even to a sub power rotation as stations seem to be more comfortable sliding in power recurrents rather than taking a chance on an unproven record. Either way, all of UMG seems to really be doing its homework on each individual song, so if it does release a single, chances are there’s a very good reason. Stay tuned as I will revisit the releases from February and March to give an update.
Meanwhile, Davey also has Drake & 21 Savage’s “Spin Bout U” at #5 and headed for #1 next week, as Metro Boomin’s “Superhero (Heroes & Villains)” f/Future & Chris Brown looks to follow right behind. Nicki Minaj’s “Red Ruby Da Sleeze” is off to a great start. It surges from #33 to #19 and gains 740 spins.
Dixie Tipton and Capitol move Lil Baby’s “Forever” f/Fridayy to #16 after an increase of 220 spins. Ice Spice’s “In Ha Mood” also gains 220 spins and lands at #18. Dixie impacted Toosii’s “Favorite Song” last week and it has already debuted at #33 with over 400 spins. She’s also impacting Doechii & Kodak Black’s “What It Is” (TDE) this week, which should easily be in the Most Added column.
Nino Cuccinello and Interscope have Rema x Selena Gomez’s “Calm Down” at #8 after scoring an additional 375+ spins. This is a record that has been on the chart for 13 weeks but has been out there for what seems like five months. Great job, Nino! He’s . also got GloRilla’s “Internet Trolls” holding at #29 this week and Ella Mai’s “This Is” (10 Summers) making its chart debut at #39.
Columbia’s Strazza is doing his best Top 40 impression as he’s currently working two Miley Cyrus tracks, “Flowers” and “River,” as well as The Kid LAROI’s “Love Again,” which he debuts this week at #36. Strazza promises he will have some more Rhythm focused music soon.
Over at Epic, Rick Sackheim and Dontay have Tyla’s “Been Thinking” at #28. They also have Kid Culture “KEEP IT” at #37 after it picks up 145 spins.
Noah Sheer and Def Jam continue to grow Hitkidd’s “Shabooya” (Blac Noize!). The track comes in at #23 this week.
At RCA, Lori G and Inca are driving Latto’s “Lottery” f/LU KALA (Streamcut) towards the Top 10. She finishes the week at #12, gaining over 400 spins. They also tell me there are a few new releases coming in the next three to four weeks. Here’s to hoping the tracks continue to come, and radio leads the way with new artists and priorities.
