THE BALLSTREET JOURNAL

The meteoric rise of Rihanna f/Drake’s “Work” (Westbury Road/Roc Nation) to #2 in just five weeks is really an amazing feat. It averaged an increase of 1100+ spins a week, and was up 1000 this week. Rick Sackheim, Noah Sheer and Scott Maness couldn’t have done any better. The record is currently building at #1 and poised to stay there a few weeks after. The boys of Def Jam also have Justin Bieber’s “Love Yourself” (RBMG) at #3, posting an increase of 250 spins. And they’ll take Jeremih’s “Oui” into the Top 10 this week with an increase of 420 spins. That’s the most of any label. DJ Mustard’s “Whole Lotta Lovin” (Roc Nation), meanwhile, is the proud owner of a triple-digit increase, coming in at #35. They also debut Alessia Cara’s “Wild Things” at #39 this week, and Kanye’s “Famous” is up 125 spins. The latter may very well be the “official” single for TLOP.

Epic’s Sujit Kundu continues the climb with Yo Gotti’s “Down in the DM” (CMG), which moves to #6 with an amazing 530 spin increase this week. It should wiggle inside the Top 5 soon. Zara Larsson & MNEK’s “Never Forget You” continues to build with a 115+ spin jump. And with solid buzz intact, while also expecting north of 20 new stations this week, they’re impacting Future f/The Weeknd’s “Low Life” (A1/Freebandz). Plus, they’re impacting Fifth Harmony’s “Work From Home,” featuring Ty Dolla $ign, this week. The initial surge from Top 40 is simply amazing, so look for this one to really cross over sooner than later. BTW, the song has been Top 5 at iTunes since its release.

Republic’s Gary Spangler, Davey Dee and Stef Cole have their plate full, as Belly f/The Weeknd’s “Might Not” moves inside the Top 15 after an increase of 380 spins. Zendaya f/Chris Brown’s “Something New” leaps #26-21, up 580 spins, while climbing the charts at Top 40 as well. Mike Posner’s “I Took a Pill in Ibiza” (Island) moves to #23, thanks to an increase of 315 spins. This record’s also being helped by the tremendous response from Top 40. The Weeknd’s “Acquainted” (XO) leapfrogs #39-29, posting a 615 spin increase. He certainly continues to be one of the hottest artists at the format. And speaking of hot, they’re officially impacting Drake’s “Summer Sixteen” (YMCMB) this week; it’s already on the chart at #32, up 170 spins. With the Republic muscle behind it, look for this one to go into overdrive. Meanwhile, Post Malone’s “Too Young” moves to #42 and is sure to debut this coming week. Fun fact: Malone was recently announced as the opening act for Bieber. This looks and feels like the most sought-after show in recent memory; a phenomenal look for the rising rapper/producer. Finally, be on alert for new music from Ariana Grande and Nick Jonas in the near future!

Columbia’s Ayelet Schiffman and James White continue to grow The Chainsmokers f/Rozes’ “Roses” (Disruptor). It was up another 140 spins and moved to #8, but they have their eyes set on Top 5. The Internet’s “Girl” (Odd Future) posts another triple-digit increase this week and moves to #33. This is going to be a grind-it-out record. It’s not a “bubble gum, perfect fit for the format” jam, but the sales definitely increase where it gets real airplay, as do the Shazam numbers. They also debut J. Cole’s “Love Yourz” (Roc Nation) at #40 this week. This one was up 155 spins, and looks to continue his success.

Over at RCA, Inca and Lori G still own the #1 record in the land with G-Eazy f/Bebe Rexha’s “Me, Myself & I,” up 425 spins again this week. They also take Chris Brown’s “Back to Sleep” inside the Top 10 to #9. Kid Ink’s “Promise” moves #15-13, adding 275 spins, and ZAYN’s “PILLOWTALK” climbs to #26, up 390 spins; make sure you check out the “PILLOWTALK” remix, featuring Lil Wayne. They’re impacting Bryson Tiller’s “Exchange” this week and the timing is perfect, as it moves to #36, up 110 spins. A$AP Ferg’s “New Level” (A$AP/Polo Grounds) is just getting started and is a few weeks away from debuting.

As for Capitol, Dixie Tipton has OG Maco & TWRK’s “Do What It Do” (QC/Motown) at #61, and that’s starting to heat up mix shows across the country. She’s impacting Young Greatness’ “Moolah” in the very near future as well.
